London, United Kingdom

the squad-trip where everyone gets what they came for. plan the food first.

vibe
world city, theater, food scene, museums, neighborhoods that feel like cities
best time
May–June, September. fewer crowds, longer light, less rain.
ideal length
5–7 days minimum for a first trip
scout's take

london is the trip the squad can split into seven different trips depending on who's leading. the foodie squad gets dishoom, kiln, padella, st. john, smoking goat. the museum squad gets the british museum + tate modern + v&a in one weekend and still hasn't seen everything. the neighborhood squad lives in shoreditch one day, hampstead the next, marylebone the next, and learns london is a federation of cities. don't try to do it all. plan dinner reservations weeks ahead. take the tube, but also walk; london is unironically beautiful on foot. theater in the west end is non-negotiable. book one show before you leave.

things to do

borough market

the food market squads make pilgrimages for. weekday lunchtime, not weekend (less crowded). monmouth coffee, kappacasein cheese sandwich, bread ahead doughnuts.

tate modern + british museum

two of the world's great free museums. tate is contemporary, british museum is everything-else. one a day, not both.

hampstead heath walk

the city's wild park. walk from kentish town to hampstead village, end with a pint at the spaniards inn. half-day, very londoner.

west end show

book before you leave. anything by the national theatre + most things at the donmar are great. tkts booth in leicester square sells day-of seats.

soho + dishoom dinner

covent garden dishoom for the chai house bombay vibe. then walk soho — the bao taqueria, kiln, blacklock chops on a tuesday.

columbia road flower market (sundays)

east london. sunday morning only. 10am for the buzz, noon for the bargains. coffee + brunch around it on shoreditch.

where to stay

soho / fitzrovia

central, walkable to theater + west end + museums. busy at night, can be loud. best first-time pick if you don't mind energy.

shoreditch

east london, creative + nightlife. cheaper than the west, edgier, easy tube to centre. for a foodie squad.

marylebone

central, calmer, food-forward. quieter at night. best for a squad over 30.

south bank / waterloo

across the river. closer to tate modern + west end transit, slightly cheaper. great views.

flight hint

lhr is the major hub (24 mi west, ~30 min on elizabeth line). lgw + stn + ltn for low-cost european routes. virgin, ba, delta, united, american all serve from us. heathrow express is overpriced; elizabeth line is the move.

plan london with the squad.
